The „age of consent“ is the minimum age at which a person is considered legally capable of consenting to sexual acts. A person younger than the age of consent (i.e. minor) cannot legally confirm that a sexual act in which they participated was consensual. In other words, in the eyes of the law, they are not yet old enough to consent to sex. If a person over the age of consent engages in sexual activity with a minor partner, that activity may be considered legal rape. In fact, in some jurisdictions, a sexual act may be considered legal rape, even if all participants were minors. The age of consent in Queensland is 16 and there are no exceptions for people close to age. It is illegal to have carnal relations with a person under the age of 16. „Carnal knowledge“ includes all types of sexual activity.  The September 2016 law lowered and harmonized the age of consent for intercourse to 16.  The Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act 1996 regulates unfounded sexual activities with partners under the age of 18 and is often interpreted broadly by local authorities to include sexual situations involving ordinary people and non-prostitutes. As a result of these regulations, Thailand has a legal age of consent of 15, but an effective age of consent of 18. Thailand does not have an age-related exemption. You can only agree if you have all the facts. For example, if a partner says they will use protection during sex, but they don`t, it`s not consensual sex. According to Chapter 6 of the Swedish Criminal Code, the age of consent in Sweden is 15 years and increases to 18 years if the potential offender is a parent or holds another position of power or trust over the minor (teacher, clergyman, foster parents, coaches, etc.). Sweden has an age limit law that can exempt those who have sexual contact with a partner under the age of 15, but who are not themselves more than three years older than that partner. Unusually, the Age of Consent Act applies in Sweden even if the sexual act in question took place outside Sweden, but the perpetrator subsequently travelled to Sweden. A person over the age of 21 may have sexual intercourse with a person who is 14 years of age or older, but not yet 16 years of age, provided that his or her inability to self-determine sexually is not exploited.
If this is the case, the youngest person should file a complaint against the person over 21 years of age in order to take legal action. Sexual acts performed without consent or with violence in any situation are illegal. The age of consent in Russia is 16. However, as in many countries, the age of consent in Russia has changed several times. The Criminal Code of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) stipulates that consent takes place at the time when „sexual maturity“ has been reached. It was set at 16 years in 1996 when the Russian Criminal Code was introduced, lowered to 14 years in 1998 and postponed to 16 years in 2003. In Russia, there is no law on age limits. However, articles 134 and 135 of the Criminal Code, which set out the conditions for legal rape, stipulate that the perpetrator must be at least 18 years of age to be legally responsible, creating roughly the same protection as an age clause. Aruba, Honduras, Costa Rica and Saint Vincent and the Grenadies have the lowest age of consent in North America at 15. In the United States, the age of consent is determined individually by each state and ranges from 16 to 18. Most South American countries choose 14 as the age of consent, including Paraguay, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia and Ecuador.

However, the follow-up law added a number of additional caveats. From an early age, children need to learn the importance of consent. It is an integral part of comprehensive sexuality education to empower people by knowing their rights. „No“ or „I don`t know,“ and silence is not consent. Tonga has no legislation on domestic violence, sexual harassment, trafficking in persons, sex tourism or the family and has neither signed nor ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
